These funny illustrations come from a story in the January 1893 issue of The Strand magazine, “Future Dictates of Fashion,” where they predicted the next 100 years of fashion. And they really, really missed the mark。

Well, I guess not too far off the mark for the turn of the century. But these fashions look a bit like a community theater production of My Fair Lady。

The Roaring Twenties looks more like the “Roaring Bloomers。”

Hmmmm… maybe they thought people in the ’30s would be into Little Bo Peep fashions?

they all look like they’re going to an awesome New Year’s Eve party。

OK, seriously, why did they think people in the ’50s would want to be dressed like court jesters?

Is it just me, or do these look like costumes from Pirates of the Caribbean?

Let’s be honest, this is better than 90% of 1970s fashion。

Apparently they thought that Victorian fashions would be in vogue again in the 1980s。

Mmmmm. OK, 1993 looks very androgynous. No seriously, is that a man or woman?
